Amazing Successes
Memory Linking
Choo-Choo! | Choo-Choo! |
By a TeacherScott was a razor-sharp eight-year-old who attended classes with his mother. He was the youngest of four home-schooled children, and his mother's care in his education was apparent from the very first day. He was articulate and knowledgable, and best yet -- very passionate about learning! When he began The Memory Train, he reached 20 images the first day. He pleaded with his mother to buy a copy so that he could practice at home. "I know I can reach 50 by next week -- just see if I don't!" He enthusiastically challenged himself. His mother handed him the booklet and smiled at me. The next week, Scott reached 50 without any difficulty. In fact, he memorized 68! The next week he increased it to 124, the next 198, and by the fifth week in class he had memorized almost the entire 300 image sequence. Scott's enthusiasm had acted as rocket fuel for his memory. He was proud and happy. During lesson planning time for week six, I reviewed his progress on my charts and saw an amazing pattern. The amount of items remembered in other memory games increased dramatically each week as he stretched his memory with The Memory Train. No other games were practiced at home. From that point on, we actively used The Memory Train with all students age four and over. It's fun. It's easy to learn. And, most importantly -- it works! |
